Today is my friend Bronte’s birthday and she is in Melbourne for work, so I thought that I would use this as an opportunity to talk about how awesome she is.
Badger and I haven’t known each other all that long, we met through our friend Pru earlier this year, but it only took one night of half priced cocktails in the Cross for us to be declaring that we were destined to be friends for life and planning a trip to New York together (it hasn’t happened yet but we pinky swore on it so it will).
Despite being very different people we get on like a house on fire and I love spending time with her, whether we are dancing around the house like idiots with the music on full blast, going on adventures to the Blue Mountains and discovering restaurants run by religious cults or spying on my neighbours and giggling like school girls when they forget to close the curtains and walk around naked.
Bronte is literally the single most generous person I have ever met. I don’t have a lot of money to spare and neither does Didge, but she is always prepared to shout a meal if it means you not having to miss out on a dinner outing, or spend her last $6 before pay day on a big block of chocolate to share. She loves doing everyone’s hair and make up and although this is partly because she finds it fun, it is mainly because she gets so much enjoyment out of seeing how happy people are when they feel good about themselves because they look great.
One time she agreed to let me borrow her car to drive to Fairfield just to get South American cakes. As I didn’t have my license, a friend of mine from Melbourne (who she had never met before) was to be driving and despite the only information Bronte had to go on being my word that he was trustworthy (and I was well biased), she still lent it to us.
I can’t drive so she has to always be taxi but has never complained, in fact if anything it is the opposite, she insists on giving me lifts places.
She patiently accompanied me to see Where the Wild Things Are and wasn’t embarrassed that I was wearing pjs and jumping around growling, because she loves me for who I am.
This girl was even prepared to line up twice with me at the grand opening of the Ben & Jerry’s store in Manly and pretend she wanted ice cream so I could have extra samples of peanut butter cookie dough. So basically I am a pain in the butt (and a little ice cream piggy) but Bronte is always there for me.
She is a shoulder to cry on for all of her friends and family because she listens and really cares, to the point that sometimes it is draining on her but she is still there for us all without question. She has dealt with some difficult experiences, but has come out a better person and is much stronger for it. I have been so proud of the way she has really taken control of her life this year. I know big things are coming from you Miss Humphrys, whether it be through conquering the world with your music or starting your own business. You most definitely deserve every amount of happiness and success you achieve.
I am so glad that you are my friend Bronte Claire. You think we are going to be friends till we are 80 and I think you are right. And I am so lucky for that. Thank you for always being the beautiful supportive woman that you are.
Totally bummed that I can’t be there with you rocking out on your 23rd birthday babe, but my hometown will look after you and we will celebrate further on your return. HAPPY BIRTHDAY and MASS LOVE from Schmicky xoxoxo
